Thankful Thursday

This Thursday I am oh, so thankful for…

The most fantastic wonderfully easy and comfy Baby Bjorn.

This was one of those purchases I didn’t make with either of the other girls but always wanted.  Amelia was blessed by some of my girlfriends who bought this as a gift for her.  (hint, hint mama-to-be: If you it’s something you know you’ll use again and again, it’s worth the investment) We’ve used it a lot, especially when it’s just me and the big girls and I want free hands.  But the Bjorn outdid itself this weekend.  Through the airport, up the sandstone cliffs, and down to the Grand Canyon, it proved itself worthy of the Baby Equipment Hall of Fame, or at least a place on the registry of every expectant mom I know.
I’m also thankful for the rain that reminded me even in the desert places,
God will supply our every need.
And finally, I’m grateful for my little sister.  She’s an incredible person whose life is turning out to be more than she ever imagined.  Thanks, Ashley, for letting us sleep in your incredible California king, for rocking Amelia back to sleep at 5 a.m., for making spaghetti, and for showing us the amazing place you get to go to work at everyday!  We love you!

Random Mornings

You know there are some things I really like about early mornings.  Like

…the smell of coffee.
…the mist over the football field at school.
…Annabelle’s disheveled hair.
…sunrise when it’s all orange and pink and gold.
…the quiet and stillness before everyone and everything really wakes up and gets going.

But I’m getting worn out greeting every morning before the crack of dawn.  I’m sure everyone on our connector flight to Charlotte at 5:30 a.m. Saturday morning is just going to love that our baby is a morning person.  Not only is she an early riser, she’s one of those annoyingly chipper morning people who want to play and laugh and engage in activities generally reserved for late afternoon.  Or at least post-coffee.

Joshua blames me because I don’t see the point in letting her “cry it out” when I have to get up in thirty minutes anyway (and by have to I really mean should because it will give me more time to enjoy the things on that list above).

I blame him.  I have good reason for this.  He’s always been a morning person.  You know, one of those who likes to get to work early to get everything done before they’re even on the clock kind of people.  He has passed this trait down to Annabelle who sweetly gets up each morning and gets dressed and comes to play with Amelia who also, apparently, has this……gift.  Yeah, that’s a nice way to put it.

Thank goodness for Madelynne.  At least I have one child who knows the value of sleeping in.

After all, those morning things are good but the rest of the day has benefits, too.  We’ll see if I stay awake to enjoy it.

Manic Monday

Well it started with a broken copier and ended with a broken rib, so I think this Monday definitely qualifies as manic.  On the upside I almost saw Jennifer Aniston today.

Our manic Monday was cruising right along this evening when it turned into panic.  I had taken the girls to the park where we had more meltdowns than fun, made and cleaned up dinner, mopped the kitchen floor so I wouldn’t feel badly about Amelia crawling on it, and was getting ready to take a shower.  Here there’s more to this story than I’m going to share, but basically Amelia was dropped far enough to make us rush her to the ER.

Now that I’ve made you gasp and have those of you who know me reaching for your cell phones, just know she’s okay.  She has a hairline fracture to a rib, but it’s so small that our family doctor had to magnify the film ten times to see it. (As an aside, our doc is quite good at calming his wife’s hysterical friends.) She’s sore, to be sure, and she didn’t really cry immediately but began to breathe with a “hitch” and that was the scariest moment of all.  Now that we’re several hours past the event, she seems to be fine.  She’s actually sleeping, which is good, but we’ll be up all night on and off waking her up to make sure she stays alright.

I’m sure that tomorrow after I’ve had time to process and over analyze I’ll give you some deep reflection on how it feels to have the passing thought that my baby might be taking her last breaths, but for now, just know that she’s okay.  And that’s the most reflection I need to have.

Random Acts of….Amelia

Millie Moo has a big update coming soon, but I felt the need to share with you faithful followers of all the randomness just a couple of quick things that for me are even more interesting than the movie being filmed at my school or the fact that Starbucks is coming to our local (and only) grocery store.

She’s a singer.  She used to think she was a NASCAR race car and would “rev her engine” before going to sleep.  Now she sings nonsense sound and syllables that I’m sure are the next work of great musical art.

Now once she puts herself to sleep, if we’re lucky she’ll stay that way until about 3 a.m.  That’s when Daddy has to go convince her that the paci is as good as mommy and she’s not going to starve to death before 5:30 a.m.

At 5:30 she’s my sweet cuddle bug (which reminds me so much of Belle).  This morning after nursing, she was lying on my chest with her head against mine shaking it back and forth.  I thought she was saying, “Oh, no, Mommy.  I love you more.”  But really she was saying, “Oh, no, Mommy!  I’m about to-“

That’s right.  Right in my mouth.  Luckily it was closed.

And that’s life with Amelia who spits up to let me know she loves me.

Half Way to One

Now that’s a crazy thought.  My baby is halfway to being one year old.  Actually she’s more than half way since she’s been six months for 2 weeks, but we’re not thinking about that.

I’ve been putting off this post until after the official six month checkup so I could give you the stats on Millie-Moo.  I’m most impressed by the fact that she’s grown 5″ (if you go by the hospital length) or 6″ (if you go by the pediatrician)….either way, she’s much longer than the 19-20″ she was when she was born!

Height: 26″
Weight: 15 lb. 13 oz.
Head: 43.5 cm
Nursing: all about it at night because that’s special mommy cuddle-time
Bottles: two of formula each day…yucky spit up
Solids: rice cereal, oatmeal, sweet potatoes, carrots, pears, bananas, peas (yuck)….oh, and since the dr. said I could feed her anything but honey now, she’s chewed on a spinich leaf and tried to steal my A&E (that’s the most awesome hamburger in the world for those of you who don’t have the fortune to live in God’s country)

Big girl!  Nope, still my baby.
