Thankful Thursday

How I need this today.  A chance to remind myself that I have so much to be thankful for even when I want to throw couch cushions in frustration.

Sigh.

Today I’m thankful for lessons learned.  Such as…

1.  It’s impossible to entertain three kids to their fullest capacity by myself.  However, it is possible to keep everybody moderately happy and satisfied for at least 75% of the evening if I put Amelia down early and let the big girls stay up late.

Later. Watching movies.  Because I’m not perfect but I am thankful for DVD players.

2.  You really shouldn’t cook rice in the crockpot if you’re going to turn it on at 7 a.m. and not return until 5:30.  Really.  Don’t try it.  But it makes me thankful for minute rice and alfredo in a jar, both of which contributed to salvaging that meal for another day.

Don’t ask for the recipe.  Anything that starts with “don’t do this” isn’t worth sharing.

3.  Candle are soothing.  (especially when trying to rid the house of a burnt rice smell) I’m really thankful for the Slatkin & Co. candles from Bath and Body Works.  Joshua got me the winter scent for Christmas and it’s as calming as that first snow fall after you’ve stocked the pantry and made soup (without rice) in the crockpot.

Ahhh…..I feel better now.

Thankful Thursday

This Thursday….

I am thankful we got a paycheck.  Actually three.  One from the old bank.  One from the new.  And one for the nearly 30 hours of overtime he worked from Friday night to Monday night.  Silver lining.

I am thankful for co-workers who understand that it was in the best interest of my students that I take Wednesday off to hold Amelia while she got four shots.   Really, it was.  Because no one needs a teacher having a mental breakdown in the middle of a classroom of teenagers.

I am thankful for Joshua’s coworker who sends a big box home with him at the change of the seasons.  Inside is a plethera of clothes for me to sort through.  I keep what I want and return the rest.  The girls aren’t naked and Kim has less to tag for the consignment sale.  It’s definitely win-win.

If you haven’t checked out Julia (and how could you have not since I post about her all the time) go on over to Black Tag Diaries, link up, and be thankful.

Oh, and Julia, I stole your unofficial button because it (and you) are awesome 🙂

This Thursday

…I’m trying to convince Joshua that he needs to man up and take care of the tooth fairy business and then he can figure out what to do with a lost tooth.  I mean, am I supposed to keep them all?  Seriously?

…I’m believing that there might be a whole contingent of people who get to stay home and blog and look at pretty pictures and dream up ways to make their house pretty and then post about it.  Wish that could be me but I’m pretty sure that even when I’m a SAHM I’ll be too busy to worry about the ugly decor in my laundry room.  (But I wish I could.)

…I’m thinking about simplifying.  I’ve got this new philosophy about selling the house. I think if I try to live within the space we have and make it pretty and functional and cozy and creative than I might stop dreaming about a new house and make peace with the sign that’s a permanent fixture in our yard.  And this is totally counteractive to the above thought.  Maybe it is my laundry room that turned away the one person we’ve had come look.  Hmmmm……

…I’m pretty sure Amelia is determined to walk before her first birthday, Madelynne is determined to lose a tooth everytime Amelia gets one and Annabelle can find the stupidest reasons to be stubborn.

Yep, just another wonderfully random thankful for this life Thursday.

Thankful Thursday

In honor of Veteran’s Day and Thankful Thursday, here’s some pics of someone I am most grateful to have in my life.  But I am even more grateful that for now he’s traded the uniform of an active duty Marine Corps Lance Corporal for t-shirts, shorts, and the title Uncle Bubby. Corey was originally stationed at K-Bay in Hawaii between tours to Iraq.  I was blessed to attend his wedding there and even more blessed that he found the most amazing woman to agree to be his wife! Much love to them both for the sacrifices they made in service to our country and each other.

Thankful Thursday

This Thursday I am blessed to have a life enriched by others.

People like a local doctor I can feel good about referring students to……..

…friends like Mary Lynn who will go to Rite Aid with me at ten minutes before closing just so I can make a profit on diapers and toilet paper (I’m really proud of this deal).
…and students like Katie who are making the world a little bit better place just by thinking about the needs of others.
