Weekend Run Around

Whew.

It’s over.  And we survived.  And I fell asleep reading at 9 o’clock last night and hadn’t written in my journal or blogged or had quiet times or done the dishes or folded the laundry or swept the floor or packed the lunches.  But it’s over.

And the beauty of it all is, I’m sure we’ll be doing it again.  The weekend run around.  Here, there, and everywhere trying to make it to everything and keep everyone happy.  Or at least fed.

We started last week really.  One Act Play festival at the community theatre.  Joshua and I keep doing this because it’s something we can do together….except then we never see each other so it’s really not working out. Might need some revising of that plan.  Friday night opener.  It was great, actually, but by Sunday afternoon I was really tired of teenagers.  Which is what I get for casting a play about high school students with a mix of middle and high schoolers.

Bright and early Saturday morning we bribed the girls with McDonald’s and it was pack up and head over to the yard sale my school was sponsoring as a fundraiser for a special needs camp.  It was successful in the grand scheme even if I did let go of a piece of furniture for only $20.  But it’s out of my house and that $20 will buy us admission to the water park in the very near future.

We broke from the yard sale briefly to head to sweet ballerina’s recital.  Pictures are worth a thousand words….

After the recital, Joshua took the girls up the hill to a birthday party for one of our favorite people and I headed back to finish the yard sale transactions.  All in all, I came home with about $75 profit, new decor, and pants for Madelynne to wear in the fall that do not have holes in the knees….yet.  Maybe next year, we should market it as a yard sale swap since most of my funds came from fellow sellers.

After a brief afternoon crash by this mommy and this sweet baby–

It was back to theatre and readying for Mother’s Day.  Guess what I was surprised with on Sunday morning?  I’m linking it here so you can get your own because I may not share!  All in all, a crazy weekend, but a life-joy-sweetness-delight-thankful weekend.  I just don’t want to do it again any time soon.

Project 52.11…I Think

I may not be sure what week it is, but I know for sure there are only 25 school days left on the calendar.  Yippee!

And I know that the CRCT starts in approximately 36 hours.  Yikes.

Busy, busy, busy springtime celebrating big milestones like birthdays and growing up girls.  Why can’t they just stay little?

Because when they’re little (like 5 years old) they have the ability to throw up for 24 hours straight and then want to eat sausage for breakfast the next morning and then throw up again in the car.  When you’re grown up you know how ridiculous it is to eat sausage after 24 hours of regurgitation.

And here’s a belated Project 52 shout out to some awesome side dishes especially the macaroni.

When I ‘fessed up to my imperfect birthday cake and my sort of successful fried chicken, I neglected to tell you how incredible my sister’s contributions were.  Katy made the macaroni, potato salad, deviled eggs, and helped salvage the cake.  Which she all pointed out to me about 30 seconds after my blog posted.  I owe her a good sisterly post soon.
The blocks are still taller than her, thank goodness.

She did have fun at this party….just not at this moment.

Mocking from her big sister would be the reason for the picture above.

BFF…at least until we send them to three different schools next year.
Happy Birthday Hailey!  Thanks for sharing your day with us!

Project 52.14

I’ve lost track of what week it is and just had to pull the calender down and count to get back on track.  Story of my life.  Always regrouping.  Hopefully, though I’m learning at least a little discipline and a lot of patience with myself by trying to make this a weekly post.

Maybe someday I’ll succeed.

The girls and I have been hanging out a lot more together lately and the result of that is I’m exhausted.  Kudos to all who face motherhood without a partner.  It’s at best overwhelming.  Joshua’s been gone a lot lately with work (amazing how much they need from someone who’s ‘temporary’) and his volunteer positions and I’m trying not to grudge him the new avenues he’s trying.  So while he’s been busy with banker business and theater thriftiness, I’ve been trying to keep the girls engaged in life beyond the DVD player and Mommy’s frazzled nerves.

Here’s some highlights from the past couple of weeks.  And I know there are no pics of today’s adventures at the Payne Plantation, but I think those might be worthy of a whole other post.  Especially because I’m ready to call it quits for the night and don’t want to open up Picasa and deal with loading the ten thousand photos Kelsey-parazzi took.

Miscellany Monday Meets Project 52

Disclaimer: Don’t read any further if you’re counting carbs or watching calories.

I obviously don’t believe in either of those activities since I’m overly pleased with my Pioneer Woman Chicken and Dumplings that capped off our crazy week 52.12.

It was cold and rainy all weekend, but inside the chocolate factory of Willy Wonka all was pure imagination.  Our annual middle school spring musical was a great success, though I must say I’m pretty partial to the performance of two little squirrels, myself.

But afternoon rehearsals make for long days and tired kids (and mommies).  So today, instead of trying to get my own routine back at Jazzercise, I opted for home and the couch and an afternoon mug of hazelnut coffee to ward off the late March chill.  It turned cold Friday and Joshua fussed when I turned the heat back on.  But poor Amelia, her lips were blue!

We think we (and by we I mean our wonderful family doc) have figured out the problem with Amelia’s thumb.  Looks like “trigger thumb” which is actually a congenital defect that may require surgery.  Normally, I’d be freaking out by now, but in the midst of all that’s happened in our lives lately and in comparison to the tragedies of Japan, it seems a small, fixable nuisance.  I’m sure I’ll be singing a different song if surgery actually becomes a reality, but for now I’m reveling in blessed assurance that Jesus is holding that sweet little hand, bent thumb and all.

See how her left thumb is bent?  It stays like that all the time, but it doesn’t hinder her–especially when food is anywhere near.

Link up at lowercase letters and write random.

Happy Monday!
