Miscellany Monday Meets Project 52

Disclaimer: Don’t read any further if you’re counting carbs or watching calories.

I obviously don’t believe in either of those activities since I’m overly pleased with my Pioneer Woman Chicken and Dumplings that capped off our crazy week 52.12.

It was cold and rainy all weekend, but inside the chocolate factory of Willy Wonka all was pure imagination.  Our annual middle school spring musical was a great success, though I must say I’m pretty partial to the performance of two little squirrels, myself.

But afternoon rehearsals make for long days and tired kids (and mommies).  So today, instead of trying to get my own routine back at Jazzercise, I opted for home and the couch and an afternoon mug of hazelnut coffee to ward off the late March chill.  It turned cold Friday and Joshua fussed when I turned the heat back on.  But poor Amelia, her lips were blue!

We think we (and by we I mean our wonderful family doc) have figured out the problem with Amelia’s thumb.  Looks like “trigger thumb” which is actually a congenital defect that may require surgery.  Normally, I’d be freaking out by now, but in the midst of all that’s happened in our lives lately and in comparison to the tragedies of Japan, it seems a small, fixable nuisance.  I’m sure I’ll be singing a different song if surgery actually becomes a reality, but for now I’m reveling in blessed assurance that Jesus is holding that sweet little hand, bent thumb and all.

See how her left thumb is bent?  It stays like that all the time, but it doesn’t hinder her–especially when food is anywhere near.

Happy Monday!

Thankful Thursday

I need to be thankful today.  Thankful and not spiteful.  Thankful and not regretful.  Thankful and not prideful.  Can you tell I’m having a bit of a down day?

I lost my temper.  Someone else lost theirs with me first, but that doesn’t make it right.  And no, it wasn’t Joshua. That fight was three days ago over the lights for my school play and I won, thank you very much.

But only because he’s less selfish and more forgiving than I am.

Sigh.

Thankfulness.  It’s important.  It’s a reminder of what’s true in my heart and soul.

That’s why the first thing on my list today is pizza.  From Papa John’s specifically.  Delivered at lunchtime in the middle of a school day during a crazy week.  Ordered as a thankfulness for what is hopefully one less thorn in our side by one of my team mates.  Teachers.  We celebrate the littlest, craziest things that no one else would care about.

The teacher in my is thankful for sticky notes today too.  Especially ones that are covered in phrases like “You rock!” and “I’d never heard of Romeo and Juliet before I took your class.  Thanks.”  It really is the little things.  The little sticky things.

Stick-it-to-’em Day. A secret project to be kind to the teachers because sometimes we need to know that what we do matters.

And finally today, I’m thankful for forgiveness.  Jesus forgave me and continues to everyday from the moment I get up and begin messing up.  I think (hope) my students forgave me for losing my temper at rehearsal.  And right now I’m praying to find forgiveness in my heart for those who make me feel unappreciated, unwanted, undeserving.  And I’m thankful that simply writing this post has helped me get there.

Thankfully there’s grace.

Birthday Belle

A year ago one of my first posts was about the Belle.  Now she’s five and feisty.  We celebrated with a family day that started with breakfast at IHOP where birthday girl proceeded to eat a bowl of macaroni and cheese.

It’s what she wanted and I figured it couldn’t be any worse for breakfast than chocolate chip pancakes.

Then it was on to the zoo on an afternoon more suitable for June than March.

What more does a 5-year-old need?

Why, a cookie cake of course!

Miscellany Monday

Today is Monday.
It was okay.
Sunshine in the evening for a walk, but the girls wanted to know why we were going to school in the dark.
Play rehearsal.
I’m not feeling the Golden Ticket yet, but that’s always the case a week before production, yet somehow, voila! It all comes together.  And nobody has a mental breakdown.
But I might get close next week, so don’t be surprised if I lay low in blogland.
Cleaned the bathroom tonight.  Flylady said just the countertops, but that made the toilet feel left out and since it’s apparently Amelia’s latest fascination, I had to clean that too.  Oh, and the mirror.  And I swept the floor and put down a clean bathmat.  I HATE cleaning the bathroom.  How can a place that is supposed to make you clean get so grimy?
And what’s up with gunk on the ice dispenser tray?  I mean, come on, it’s ice.  That’s just water.
Joshua says you can’t leave water unattended.  You never know what it will get up to.  Sort of like a class of seventh graders who beat me back to the classroom after lunch.
Speaking of 7th graders, is it their goal to make me feel bad in the last quarter of my career?
Really, I don’t need to know that you made a good grade on your final because you just “guessed”.  Plus I don’t believe you.  Surely some knowledge seeped into your brain at some point in the past 130 days.  Please, let’s hope so.
That’s it for today.

Project 52.10

Week 10 of Project 52.  But only like the fifth post for this project because if it was too predictable, it wouldn’t be random.  Right?

We had a busy week, but it was nothing compared to the week before when Joshua was gone every night teching Hairspray for the community theatre.  Now that’s behind us and he can concentrate on important stuff.

Like putting the kids to bed before 9 and eating Girl Scout cookies on the couch with me.

Here’s some visual aids of our week to help you imagine what our life is like in case you don’t actually know me or see us on a regular basis.  As for the rest of you who actually get to see me pretending to know what I’m doing parenting three girls, you can enjoy knowing the randomness is not just contained to the blog.

Why, yes, I can read my books with only one eye.
I’m attempting organization/sugar reduction for Madelynne’s snacks.  Seemed to work pretty well to have everything prepped so all she had to do was grab.  And seemed to be an improvement over Oreo Cakesters as an afternoon snack.

A special picture for our special friends who welcome their first baby, Leah Katherine, on March 10.
What do you mean I’m not allowed to play in the toilet?

And we’ve come full circle as Amelia reads to herself before bed.
