..and then she was one…

Despite having a shadow over our weekend, we celebrated Amelia’s birthday with lots of icing, a few friends, and only a moment or two of tears from Mommy.

How do they go from so small she’s just a tiny dark head in our family picture to the icing eating toddler you’ll see below?

We’ve had to reschedule her party for next weekend and I missed all the blog milestones I was “supposed to” mark this week…oh, well.  We’ll just keep celebrating all week.

Thank God we are not judged on what we are supposed to, but rather on how much love we share.  This past year we have been blessed with more love, more joy, and more completeness.  Happy Birthday, Amelia…you are a joy and a blessing each and every day.

Where are the Bracketts?

I know this has been a burning question in your mind this week.  Where are they?  What are they doing?  When will we get a new blog? 

So maybe it’s just my sisters who were messaging me about not keeping them updated, but I’d like to believe others care about hearing all about the randomness too.

And if you don’t, why are you reading this?

Anyway, we’ve been enjoying a little mini-vacation this week.  We headed up to Gatlinburg on Saturday, and by “we” I mean Joshua and I.  That’s right.  We escaped for 36 whole hours sans girls.  For awhile we didn’t even talk.  Just enjoyed the silence. 

On Sunday, the girls were delivered via Mimi and Grandpa who stayed to hang out for a couple of days and watch Amelia while we took the girls skiing for the first time…and that’s a whole other blog.  In the meantime, here’s some pics.

Now, we’re home and getting caught up….and trying to remember how much we enjoyed the laidback pace of the past few days.

On Friday afternoon I started finding all these little bites of deliciousness in random places like my car…my dresser…my suitcase….

Inside this festive bag is a sweet note and my favorite cookie from a little bakery in Wellesley, Massachusetts where my aunt lives.  That’s right, he had them imported all the way to Georgia to give me Valentine’s Day and early birthday wishes.  The best part is he’ll love me even if I eat the whole box.

Which I just might.

I’ve skipped these for a few weeks, but this one I love and can churn out in just a few.

Two Things I’ve Learned about Blogging….

1.  People will actually read what you write (and sometimes quote it back to you).  So don’t put it out there if you don’t want to talk about, laugh about it, be teased about it, or never forget about it.  Whatever it may be.

2.  Write like you’re talking to a friend.  Blogs are not for great writing, they’re for real writing.  Sometimes I have to remind myself that editing and revising my blog post is not giving my readers a glimpse at what is really going on in my head.  So, lately I’ve really been concentrating on writing the way I talk to my closest friends, my sisters, or my mom.  But, don’t forget the punctuation 🙂
