Project 52.3

Madelynne and Amelia stage a photo shoot in the hallway, although it looks more like Belle has been kicked out of the room they share, and is waiting for a ride somewhere else with all her belongings.

Because you should always dress up to play Wii.

Our good friend Jason took a break from his residency as a new doctor to come visit over the weekend and play lots of video games with the girls.  He’s chosen pediatrics as his specialty and he’s definitely a favorite with our girls.

Elevensies

I don’t want her to be eleven months old.   Ten months was safer.  Ten months was still baby.  Eleven months is sketching a little too close to toddler and I’m not ready for that.

She’s not walking yet and since she’s been pulling up since she was seven months old that’s something of a shocker, but I’m glad.  I’m not ready for a little teetering down the hall person.

She’s cutting six more teeth.  Two are through the gums and the rest are this whitish glow we can see when she hangs her head back and screams because she’s mad she’s not getting her way.  I’m not ready for temper tantrums from this little one.

She’s discovered the kitchen cabinets.  They are by far the most interesting thing in our house and are way cooler than any toy she got for Christmas.  She opens them up and scatters the lids to all my Pyrex dishes all over the floor, but I’m not ready to put locks on all my cabinets.

She sleeps through the night except for an occasional early morning wake up for a diaper change and a cuddle and then it’s right back to bed.  She fits right under my chin and nuzzles her face in my shoulder.  I breathe deep so I can get in all that sweet baby smell of vanilla and soap and innocence. Sometimes I hold her extra tight and just sit.

And I’ll never be ready to give that up.

Project 52.2

What a week for this early in the year! A winter storm buried us under seven inches of beautiful powdery snow and has now kept us out of school for six days. We had a great time sledding down the “holy moly big hill” as a FB friend dubbed it and then this weekend braved the roads (all main ones were fine) to head to Augusta for Hailey’s 5th birthday party ala Hannah Montana. On Sunday, we hung out at Marmie’s with the Beeson clan and that picture in front of the fireplace–looks just like all the times my siblings and cousins and I were lined up for the yearly photo. I’ll have to find one, figure out how to scan it, and post that. Up top are all the Payne siblings in the snow that’s still hanging out in E-town, and the handsome guy on the bottom is my nephew Colton who leaves with his mama this week to head back West. He’ll be so big next time we get to see him! Marmie corralled Amelia in the playpen even though I told her we prefer our babies free range, but Millie Moo didn’t seem to mind after all. We’ve had a great week 2 and hope you have too.

Random Acts of Snow

I really love snow days.  (Insert sigh of contentment.)

Sure the girls are getting a little cabin fever and folks seem a bit put out that school’s been cancelled again and I really don’t want to lose my entire February break because we already made vacation plans but snow days.  Ahhh.

It’s like Christmas break without all the stress and strain of go-here-do-this-get-that.  It’s just time to be.  To stay home and drink a second cup of coffee in my pajamas.  To play games at the kitchen table and put together puzzles.  To eat soup and grilled cheese for every meal. (not that we did that.)

Sure I could be worrying about how I’m going to make up a week of lost instruction in this time crunch before testing.  How I’m going to get all the extra laundry we’ve gone through taken care of.  How I’m going to have to figure out some more structure for summer because otherwise the girls are going to drive me crazy fighting. (which they intersperse with regular intervals of curling up in the arm chair together to watch cartoons.)

Snow days remind me that sometimes we all just need to slow down.  I hope yours was a gift and not an inconvenience.  I pray it was a reminder that sometimes being trapped at home with no agenda is the breather we all need. (sigh again)

Besides the bustle of normalcy will return all too soon.  And when it does, we’ll look back at these days with longing.

And thankfulness that rain boots were such a popular trend this year.
